Let us know you are coming!

The pumpkin carving will start at 10 am on Saturday, October 24. We have to be completed by 4 pm. The pumpkins will be chosen by the carvers on a "first come basis", so come early if you are particular about the pumpkin you carve.

There will be pumpkins available to carve by people who simply show up, but we would like to ensure that those who plan in advance don't miss out.  So, let us know that you are coming so that we make sure we reserve enough pumpkins for you.

Tried to Cover the Patch

With the help of the truck headlights (after coming in from the field) we tried to cover all the pumpkin patch to protect it from our first frost. Got most of it, but was a lot of work. The tarps didn't cover everything - and the wind blew off the tarp in other places. It will definitely be easier to find the pumpkins once we let the frost have its way - which is exactly what my father told me: "You will find the pumpkins once the frost hits".

Hard to Find Pumpkins

It is hard to find pumpkins in all the vines - my dad says that there is no use trying - just wait until the frost then they will magically appear.

But I am impatient and want to see the pumpkins.

Here is another photo of the Howden pumpkin - now turning colour taken on Sept 2.

The pop bottle is still off to the side to show the size, but it is hard to see it in this photo.

And a baby pumpkin is forming above - think that I will have to try to re-arrange these two.

A Person Could Get Lost

It would take multiple photos to get the entire pumpkin patch now. The white chair was put into the photo to try to show how tall the pumpkin plants are now. And there is no way to get into the patch to see all the pumpkins.
This is one of the Howden pumpkins. I put a litre pop bottle next to it to show the size. It is near the edge of the patch, so I can find it. The patch is so thick that I can't see into it to find more.

The Pumpkins are Forming

The pumpkins are starting to form. There is so much vine that it is hard to get in to the center to look for the individual pumpkins. But - they are there!

Pumpkins taking over the garden

The pumpkin patch is definitely doing well. We have had lots of rain - may have to cut back some of the vines before they take over the tomatoes!

The Pumpkin Patch in Beth Campbell's garden is flourishing!

This is the Howden pumpkin - it gets bigger every day.  Almost seems that you could sit there and watch the plant grow.

Pumpkin Blossoms - June 24

The Howden pumpkin that was purchased as a bedding plant is starting to bloom. Wonder how soon the pumpkins planted from seed will start blooming.

Saskatoon's Mayor Don Atchison has diarized Friday, October 23rd at 7:45 p.m. for him to deliver greetings at The Reflections Gala Opening. His office will confirm closer to that date. They will also advise us then if he will be available to participate in the Pumpkin Carving Event.

Pumpkins on June 11

This is the Howden Pumpkin that was purchased as a bedding plant. Doing well.

The Atlantic Giant seeds planted are starting to grow. Hoping to get some huge pumpkins!

The First Prize Pumpkin seeds sprouted sooner than the others.

The pumpkin patch is seeded and watered. Now to sit back and wait for it to start growing! I did get one variety as a pre-started bedding plant - a Howden Pumpkin.  Will be interesting to see if it progresses more quickly than the seeds I planted at the same time.
Varieties planted:
- Howden
- Lumina
- Jack-O'-Lantern
- First Prize Hybrid
- Dill's Atlantic Giant
All of the varieties have been planted in the same area, so I am sure that there will be a lot of cross-pollination occurring. Will be interesting to see how they turn out.
